The article below my pictures is a very good snapshot of what is going on in the book industry these days and certainly worth a read.
To begin, though, here are some pictures from my phone taken at the show.
As a business summary report, here are a few pertinent items.
– Kait and I each had over 30 meetings. Shaina took our overflow and did a great job.
– We tweeted and did our social media, and really connected with and for our authors.
– We found a number of new products and services for AMI.
– We found more and more outlets for selling SBPRA authors.
– We have a lot more ebook distribution planned.
– We maintained connections into China and other various industry partners.
As you may know, we had an Author Walking Tour and it really went great! Here we are cutting up at a New York Library Booth. That’s Kait and Shaina in the front. We definitely plan on doing it next year it went so well.
Next year China is the Guest of Honor at BEA, so we will be working it hard!
Here is a delegation from Southern Media Publishing in Guangzhou that is looking to buy rights from us. Guess which one is Robert. =)
As you may remember, we are distributing our ebooks to Gardners in the UK. These book shows are great ways to keep the relationships moving positively.
One of the ideas that we are going to be trying towards Christmas is “bundled curated books”. We picked this idea up at the show. “Best of.. “ is a nice package.
Of course, we always meet a few of our librarian buyers at the shows too.
Guess what? We added Vietnam to our book and ebook distribution!
We LOVE the idea of a book truck! Actually, we are playing with this idea in our Africa partnership plans.
Like London, the Rights Centre is quite a large space. You can see the tables stretch on and on. We find that having a Rights Table is more conducive to business now than having a booth.
We see that Spain and Spanish and Latin America are really starting to show up on our radar.
Ingram is our main distributor and they always have a very professional booth. We meet with them to keep things moving smoothly for our authors.
Amazon is always present. As you know, there is quite the controversy with them now as they fight with Hachette.
The sheer size of BEA takes my breath away.
So, bring your walking shoes!
I just love the creativity of covers that we see!
We are seeing more emphasis in London and BEA for authors.. stay tuned.
Ready for more Star Wars? Book launching is what happens at BEA too.
Overall, we had a great time at BEA this year and are looking forward to all of the good that comes from it.
